The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is accepting comments through April 25 on an environmental assessment worksheet to address conditions left by flooding in Blue Mounds State Park.
Heavy rains in June and July 2014 caused flooding that resulted in a failed dam and other damages within Blue Mounds State Park, near Luverne in Rock County. Floodwaters washed out a portion of the lower dam emergency spillway and drained the basin known as Lower Mound Lake.
The proposed Lower Mound Lake Basin Restoration Project includes removal of the remaining structures of the failed dam and restoration of Lower Mound Lake Basin to a natural stream and adjacent wetlands.
A copy of the environmental assessment worksheet is available on the environmental review page. A hard copy may be requested by calling 651-259-5694.
