Friends sponsor 5K to support programs at Wild River State Park

Get outdoors for a walk or a run amid fall color at the Wild River 5K Otter Trotter Run/Walk near North Branch on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The race starts at 10 a.m. from the picnic shelter. The route will take you along Nevers Dam man-made dike, along the west bank of the St. Croix River, next to some native prairie and finishing along a wooded path that shows some of the past history of the logging industry.

Race-day registration ($35 with T-shirt, $25 without) will take place from 8:30 am to 9:45 a.m. at the park’s picnic shelter at Wild River State Park. T-shirts are available while supplies last. Registration forms can downloaded at www.friendsofwildriver.org or picked up at the park.

All proceeds from the sixth annual event, sponsored by the Friends of Wild River State Park, go to help support park programs.

Awards will be given to the top finishers, plus all participants under age 12 will receive a prize.

Wild River State Park is located 15 miles east of North Branch and 12 miles north of Taylors Falls just off of Highway 95 near Almelund. A park vehicle permit ($7/day or $35/year) is required to enter Minnesota state parks and recreation areas.
