DNR seeks comments on Grand Rapids area lake and stream management plans

Citizens interested in learning about or commenting on Minnesota Department of Natural Resources strategies for managing Grand Rapids area lakes and streams have until Friday, March 10, to ask questions or submit comments.

Management plans describe the past, present, and desired future conditions of the water resources. The plans identify specific management activities planned for that lake or stream in the next five to 20 years.

Every year DNR fisheries staff prepares or revises individual lake management plans for several waters in each management area. In the Grand Rapids area, plans for the following lakes and streams will be reviewed:

  • Balsam – general fish management, northern pike regulation review.
  • Bello – general fish management.
  • Blandin reservoir – walleye stocking review.
  • Carey – walleye stocking review.
  • Chase – general fish management.
  • Dark – general fish management, walleye stocking review.
  • Dead Horse – walleye stocking review.
  • Eagle – general fish management, walleye stocking review.
  • Haskell – general fish management.
  • Iron Chief – general fish management, trout stocking review.
  • Kremer – general fish management, trout stocking review.
  • Little Sand – general fish management, panfish evaluation.
  • Maple – walleye stocking review.
  • No-ta-she-bun – walleye stocking review.
  • Perch – general fish management, walleye stocking review.
  • Ruby – walleye stocking review.
  • Rush Island – walleye stocking review.
  • Scrapper – general fish management.

Public comments on management of these waters will be taken through Friday, March 10.  Comments and suggestions for management of any other streams and lakes in the Grand Rapids area are welcomed at any time, and will be considered when those plans are due for review.
